Joseph Turns 1!

Sunday was Joseph’s first birthday, so we celebrated with pizza, cake and presents. He was a fan of all three.

He’s still not walking yet, but he’s getting there: he’s happy to trundle along with help, and he’s willing to take a step or two on his own, but that’s about as far as it goes. At long last, the long, dark tooth drought seems to be coming to an end, though: one of his upper canines seems to be finally poking through his gums. His bottom teeth are still grossly underrepresented, however. It’s long past time for them to stand up and be counted.

Pictures of all the birthday excitement are here.

The Brief Adventures of Baby Joe

Well, we’re still way behind in going through pictures—we’ve taken something like 800 between last Thanksgiving and today—but here’s a short video that illustrates what it’s like to be Joseph Richard Wong in a harsh and unforgiving world.

The video is titled The Brief Adventures of Baby Joe, but rest assured that Julia makes her presence felt as well. She is a force to be reckoned with, even when she’s just a disembodied voice offscreen.

It’s a pretty big download, but we think most everyone reading this nowadays has DSL or some other kind of broadband connection. As usual, you’ll need QuickTime 7 to play the clip.

Quotable 2

Julia, standing in the living room after making it through the entire day at daycare without an accident: “Daddy, my pants are getting wet!”

Joseph at Six-ish Months

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Joseph had his six-month checkup last week, about a month late. He’s 26.75 inches tall, with a head circumference of 44 centimeters; both of these measurements are right around the fiftieth percentile.

Unfortunately, his weight was actually down a bit from his last visit to the doctor; at 16 pounds, 9 ounces, he’s around the fifteenth percentile. Doctor Kim attributed this to Joseph’s recent bouts with ear infections, eye goop and colds and isn’t overly concerned. We’ve got a followup appointment in a couple weeks and will see where we stand then.

Halloween Pics

They’re a bit overdue (OK, more than a bit), but we’ve finally posted some Halloween pictures. Julia loved her chicken costume–in fact, she insisted on putting it on again this evening. Joseph was a bit nonplussed by his elephant outfit, but that may have had something to do with the fact that the trunk kept sliding down over his eyes.

We’ve also thrown in a picture of Julia from about a year ago that I don’t think has been posted online before. It’s at the tail end of the album.
